In 2000, Judith Inglese, a mural artist specializing in ceramic tiles, created this 5 by 9 foot mural that stretches across the Bangs Community Center. Funded by the Amherst Public Art Commission, ‘For My Relations’ is a terracotta ceramic mural that embodies a “classical sense of myth and communal memory.”
The piece is divided into two offset halves depicting a unified whole. The left semi-circle portrays a variety of plants and animals. The right semi-circle contains people from different backgrounds and ethnicities. Emphasizing the cultural diversity in Amherst, the piece includes a wide variety of patterns, symbols, and colors.
