Robert Frost Library offers Amherst College and local community members access to resources, study spaces, computer labs, research support, and opportunities for community engagement. As the main library on campus, The Robert Frost Library of Amherst College houses the majority of arts, humanities, social science, and science collections to support research, teaching, and learning at the College.

Themed book displays and archival exhibits can be found throughout the first floor. The second floor houses both student and non-student gallery spaces with art exhibitions that change each semester. Staff at the front desk are available to help visitors find what they need.

The library’s Archives & Special Collections, holds over 80,000 books and 11,000 linear feet of archival materials. The department houses major collections of Emily Dickinson and Richard Wilbur books and manuscripts, along with one of the largest collections of Native American literature in the United States. The history of Amherst College and the local community is extensively documented through books, manuscripts, photographs, film, and objects. Archives & Special Collections is typically open Monday - Friday, 9AM - 4PM.

Community members may apply for a local borrowers card at the front desk in Frost, which gives them the ability to check out print materials from Frost. Community members may also use the public computers on the first floor to access many of the library’s online resources.

Frost Library is open to the public seven days a week during the academic year with reduced hours when classes are not in session, so be sure to check out current hours on the library’s website when you plan your visit.
