TOGETHER in AUGUST

Building on the inaugural window gallery display of ENCOUNTERS in July, Gallery A3 presents a new exhibit, TOGETHER in AUGUST, opening on Thursday, August 6.

Until it’s safe to resume its regular exhibition schedule, this cooperative fine art gallery in downtown Amherst will mount a series of exhibitions in its storefront windows, as part of endeavors to keep visual art actively present in the community, despite the effects of the lockdown.

Facing immense and immediate changes in our society due to the global pandemic and the rise of urgent political protests, we remind ourselves that while we may be alone, we are working together. Through our connections with each other, we persevere and thrive as a community. And so together, we grow stronger.

The artwork in TOGETHER in AUGUST may reflect the simple joy in working near each other or reveal serious purpose in marching in solidarity with social or political causes. It may mean collaborating on a community mural or enjoying a socially-distant picnic outdoors on a blanket. Or it may suggest mosaic shards settling into wet cement or two cans of paint snuggling together in a still life composition.

We can’t yet all be together inside the gallery, but during August, please stop by to see TOGETHER in AUGUST, displayed in the front windows of Gallery A3.

Programs by Gallery A3, a cooperative, artist-run gallery in downtown Amherst, are supported in part by a grant from the Amherst Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
